James the Tinker
When you finish, read the whole story aloud.
James travels through Ireland in his caravan. His strong horse pulls it along the country roads. One morning, he stops beside a small village. He feeds his horse before taking out his tools. A woman brings him an old pot that needs mending. James finds a small hole in the bottom. He carefully cleans the metal around it. Then he heats a small piece of metal. He fixes it over the hole so water cannot escape. Now the woman can use her pot again. She smiles, pays James and thanks him for his help. Other people arrive with things for him to mend. Before sunset, James puts his tools away. His horse pulls the caravan out of the village. They find a quiet place to rest for the night.
