James the Tinker
When you finish, read the whole story aloud.
James lives in a horse-drawn caravan. He travels through the Irish countryside. His strong horse pulls the caravan. James stops beside a small village. He gives his horse some food and water. Then he opens his box of tools. A woman brings him an old metal pot. There is a small hole in its base. James cleans the metal around the hole. He heats a piece of metal carefully. He fixes it firmly over the hole. The old pot is ready to use again. The woman is happy with his work. She pays James and thanks him warmly. Other people bring him things to mend. James packs his tools before sunset. His horse pulls the caravan away. He finds a quiet place for the night.
